Winner of the Neeme Järvi Prize 2019

Hankyeol Yoon is chosen as the winner of Neeme Järvi Prize 2019 at Gstaad Menuhin Festival and Academy.

During 3 weeks from 27.07 to 15.08.2019, eleven participants got unique opportunity to work with the critically acclaimed Gstaad Menuhin Festival Orchestra, while being coached by outstanding conductors. For this year’s edition, Manfred Honeck, Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, took the position of directing the Gstaad Academy – working alongside each other with Johannes Schlaefli, Professor for Orchestral Conducting at the Zurich University of Arts.

As part of the final concert on August 15, two of the eleven participants were announced as the equitable winners of the Neeme Järvi Prize 2019: Teresa Riveiro Böhm (Austria/Spain, 1990) and Hankyeol Yoon (South Korea, 1994). The prize winners have the honor of performing with Swiss professional orchestras; Böhm will be conducting the Basel Chamber Orchestra and Yoon the Symphony Orchestra Basel.

The jury assembled Christoph Müller (Artistic Director Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy), the professors of the Gstaad Conducting Academy Manfred Honeck and Johannes Schlaefli, two members of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra as well as representatives of the partnered orchestras, namely Franziskus Theurillat (Symphony Orchestra Basel), Markus Niederhauser (Basel Chamber Orchestra) and Xavier Zuber (Symphony Orchestra Bern).
